Grass Point on 19th May 2009

As it looked like being a very nice day, we decided to stay close to the cottage and enjoy our surroundings. We did, however, venture out to the Fishnish area as this was recommended as being a place to see Crossbill. In the event, we didn't see crossbill (or much else, for that matter), but there were some interesting green beetles with metalic colouring to the head, and pink legs. We returned to Grass Point for the rest of the day, to be greeted with the news that a White Tailed Sea Eagle had landed just a short distance from the cottage, but had now gone. From round the cottage we enjoyed the superb scenery and the richness of the wildlife. In the morning, the two Shelduck made their usual journey westwards, and a Shag was playing about in the water in front of our cottage. In the afternoon, an otter passed by the cottage, the Shag came out onto the rocks beside the cottage, a male Cuckoo was on the wires just a short way up the lane (Cuckoos were seen on most days at various places on Mull), a Whinchat was in the field beside the cottage, a Skylark landed on the grass in front of the cottage, and a couple of Willow Warblers were beside the lane, a short way away. What a wonderful place.
